About IAP-GmbH

IAP-GmbH was founded in 2000 as an engineering firm with the clear goal of developing practical solutions for its clients. Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Thrun leads the company in its second generation as Managing Director.

He earned a degree in Physics (2014) and a doctorate in Data Science (2017) from Philipps University Marburg. The latter was under the Chair of Data Bionics, led by Prof. Dr. habil. Alfred H.G. Ultsch, one of the leading scientists in artificial intelligence and 'Knowledge Discovery in Databases.' He initially worked as a Big Data Scientist at an international company and is the author of the book published by Springer Verlag: 'Projection-Based Clustering through Self-Organization and Swarm Intelligence.' His research team specializes in knowledge discovery using data bionics methods and explainable artificial intelligence for decision support systems. Currently, he researches the detection and explanation of genetically caused diseases using AI in interdisciplinary collaboration.

In 2022, he received his habilitation in Computer Science at Philipps University Marburg. The written work addressed the topic of explainable artificial intelligence, and the colloquium focused on Reinforcement Learning in Practice. Additionally, he teaches time series analysis, data bionics methods of artificial intelligence, and knowledge discovery in the Data Science program at Philipps University Marburg. In 2025, he was awarded an honorary professorship by Philipps University of Marburg for outstanding achievements in the field of artificial intelligence in business.
